Jack Russell Terrier

It was said that a young Oxford University theologian student named John Russell once met a milkman with a white Terrier named Trump. This dog piqued John’s interest and later became the foundation for what we know today as a Jack Russell Terrier.

A Terrier’s basic instinct to go on and over the ground (terrier by the way came from the Latin term “terra” which means earth), is a perfect disposition to hunt and scour for small animals or rodents. Jack Russell Terriers are excellent ratters and are great for keeping rodents away from your home.

A Jack Russell Terrier’s aggressive demeanor make them excellent watch dogs as they will bark at the slightest indication of an intruder. Although their small stature makes them appear harmless they can become very aggressive and their lack of fear towards larger dogs can get them into trouble and sometimes lead to injuries or even be fatal.

While the Jack Russell Terrier can be aggressive it is also an excellent family pet. They do  require training and respond well to instruction. In fact, Hollywood has recognized the disposition of these dogs and you probably have seen a number of Jack Russell Terriers on TV or in the movies.

Jack Russell Terriers require very little in the way of grooming and are generally healthy dogs that will live 10 to 15 years.

I’ve owned many dogs in my lifetime and Jack Russell Terriers are my favorite breed.
